Pass Labs X2 Mk II line-stage “Super-Symmetry” preamp.
Not to be confused with the Mk I – even though they look identical, they are completely different beasts inside!
Super-Symmetry is Pass Lab’s patented, balanced, amplifiying circuit topology which essentially elliminates noise and distortion from both the signal and the circuitry itself. The unique, precision matched design causes the noise and distortion of each half of the balanced circuit to be identical yet out of phase and thus cancels itself at the output.

Due to it’s internal balanced design, outputs are fully balanced. There is one balanced input whilst all others are single-ended phono connections. There is also a tape-out that can be switched off or to send inputs 1-3 to tape-out, bypassing volume control.
It is a fantastic sounding preamp, has superb ergonomics/feel and a very solid build – a joy to use. It has been in my system for several years now and I’m only putting up for sale to slowly reduce my hifi collection and encourage me to complete my DIY pre-amp project!
This is the Mk II version of the X2 (sometimes called the X2.2) and shares the same class-A line-stages and topology as the later range that replaced it, such as the first versions of the X2.5 and X1. The MkII retains the custom-made stepped attenuator whilst the X1 and X2.5 Mk I went on to use a resistor ladders, remote control, buttons and LCD displays.
Essentially the X2 MkII is a minimalist pre-amp using the Super-Symmetry circuit and beautifully tactile controls.
When reading up on these, looking at reviews, you have to take the above into account. The reviews of the X2.5 Mk I are more relevent than those of the X2 Mk I.
I still have the box and full packing along with the manual. It will come with a standard power lead and I can try to see if I have a shuko (European) plugged one if that’s better than a UK plug for you.
