Just love Rotel products as they are always quality! Superb quality parts as standard such as Black Gate and Nichicon Great Supply capacitors. These are literally as high end and rare as it gets! I checked the condition before upgrading and they all tested in excellent health! My work began with replacing the old transformer with audiophile grade toroidal type. This is providing about twice the power it actually requires! The power is then fed into top grade Schottky diodes bypassed with polypropylene caps. The power supply is now beefed up, low noise and high performance! Beats the standard configuration in more ways than words can describe!
The gain of the preamp was then increased to make it sound louder and the input capacitor was changed from Wima polypropylene to super high grade silver mica 2%. This should provide super frequency response and sweeter mids/lows and a more detailed high. The audio path capacitor was also replaced from Wima to polystyrene 1% which again will provide a greater frequency response.
The output opamps were replaced with Sparkos Labs SS3601 discrete opamps. Simply put they are the worlds best! They sound very warm and detailed. The output caps were also replaced with Mundorf MCap Evo Oil. These are super high end and as output caps offer incredible sound quality!
Lastly all the essential power caps were bypassed with Wima polypropylene and a Ferrite core was added to remove noise from power cable.
The parts used are all high end not found in your average Phone pre amplifier. In fact I have seen Phono pre’s costing 500+ not even using such high end parts!
Excellent power section, the best discrete opamp and super high grade output caps. I would imagine this Phono preamp would make someone very happy by providing excellent sound quality and saving them hundreds of pounds. Sounds like another Amp-King bargin!
Lots of new parts will need a few days/week of use to break in properly.
