The 24K gold-plated Airlock plugs are fitted to the ends of the speaker cable by a skilled technician using a high pressure hydraulic ram, which `cold welds` the plug to the cable, eliminating all air from the join. Not only does this produce a join with the ultimate mechanical integrity, it also prevents sonic degradation due to oxidisation. In other words, these plugs, in combination with a good speaker cable, will help your system perform to its maximum capability – and keep it performing at that level for longer.
These Airlock plugs are superb – much better than using cheap screw-on plugs or bare-wire!
When Airlock plugs were first launched by QED, there were 2 versions – the MK1 plug with plastic shrouds and a very good gold contact area (rather like the excellent old RS plugs Naim and The Chord Company used to use) and a MK2 plug, which looked much more posh with its metal shrouds, but actually made (in our opinion) a worse ‘plug to socket’ contact. When QED discontinued the MK1 plugs, we were so concerned that we went out and sourced a virtually identical plug, which is what you now see on all our cables.
